Abstract
513,899. Cements, mortars &c. WALLACE, N. E., LEFEBURE, V., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 22, 1938, No. 5507. [Class 22] The strength and hardness of cements comprising blast furnace slag, calcium sulphate and Portland cement clinker are improved by allowing the cement to set in the presence of additional lime derived from a liquid medium in contact with the setting cement or from a limecontaining or lime-producing substance other than lime itself or Portland cement clinker, added to the mix. The fineness of the cement is preferable such that at least 60 per cent. by weight of the slag, at least 50 per cent. of the Portland cement clinker and at least 60 per cent. of the final cement comprises particles not exceeding 30 microns in diameter, as described in Specification 513,897. The lime may be added by curing the setting cement in lime water, or by adding crushed sand-lime bricks or crushed calcium sulphate (plaster of Paris), containing 10-20 per cent. of lime to the cement.
