[Class 40 (iv)] In a microphone of the kind having eccentrically disposed electrodes 4, 5, the distance between the electrodes is arranged to be adjustable so that the resistance of the microphone may be varied, while the capsule chamber is adapted to be completely filled with carbon powder 1. As shown, the capsule comprises an insulating chamber 2 carrying a fixed electrode 4 and is closed by a diaphragm 3 which carries the other electrode 5 and is rotatable so as to vary the distance between the two electrodes. The capsule is mounted within a casing 9 closed at the front by a diaphragm 6 which is secured by a threaded ring 7. If desired, the diaphragm 3, after adjustment to the desired position, may be fixed in such position in assembly.
