Abstract

506,693. Microphones. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JONES, A. F. March 30, 1938, No. 9650. [Class 40 (iv)] In a microphone having a fixed electrode 6 and a movable electrode 12 immersed in granulated carbon, the electrodes are provided with collars 8, 10 of thin metal coated with an insulating lacquer which extend beyond the electrode surface into the carbon and act upon the carbon to provide in effect a large electrode with a relatively small conducting area disposed centrally thereon. The granule chamber is closed by a disc 4 secured between the container 2 and a shoulder on a ring 3 on which is threaded a portion 15 of the casing which carries the main diaphragm 11. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown), the collar on the fixed electrode is cylindrical and the moving electrode has a collar formed by two frusto-conical members of insulating material or coated with an insulating lacquer.
