Abstract

454,481. Hair drying appliances ; heating air by electricity; air-current indicators. DUCART, G., 10, Rue Lapeyrere. Paris. March 31, 1936, No. 9559. Convention date, July 29, 1935. [Class 81 (ii)] [See also Groups XI and XX] In a hair-drying appliance of the kind disclosed in Specification 439,619, the fan located within the hood is driven through a flexible transmission drive by a driving motor disposed outside of and disassociated from the hood. The appliance consists of a casing 1 and a head protector 3 of perforated sheet metal or metal lattice work. The upper casing 18, containing the heating resistances 20 and motor control rheostat 32, is supported by a curved arm which is rigidly connected to the foot 10. The motor 4 is provided with projections 7 resiliently mounted in casing 9 in rubber sleeves 8, Fig. 3. The motor may be mounted in any other suitable position, such as on a wall. The flexible cable 5 provided with a rubber sheath 6 is fitted at the end remote from the motor with a pin 11, Fig. 4, on which are fastened the fan 2, and a cup 15 to prevent splashing of the lubricating oil into the hood. The supporting sleeve 16 of the pin 11 is resiliently supported in a rubber sleeve 19. The heating resistances 20 are plugged into insulated sockets 24, Fig. 6, and are supported by a bridge 25 to which is connected a rod 27 normally held fast by knob 28. A removable plug 26<a> enables the resistances to be easily withdrawn. Plug 26 is also removable. Air is drawn over the heating resistances through apertures 21, 22. The slide 34 of the motor control rheostat 32 is fixed to lever 33 which is rotatable on the central spigot 18b of the casing. A shutter 36 on the lever prevents entry of air through the slot provided for the passage of the lever. The rheostat is cooled by the air drawn in by the fan. An anemometric pendulum comprising a pivoted rod 37, an indicator 39 and a counterweight 40 is disposed inside the casing, and the speed of the motor is regulated until the indicator 39, displaced by the air current, is visible through the window 41 in the casing. The head is positioned by neck supports 42 which are provided with projections 43 rotatable in sockets 44 in which they are clamped. The rod 47 of the rotating switch Fig. 1, controlling the heating current and for starting the motor is provided with a disc 48 carrying translucent indicators illuminated by lamp 59 to indicate whether one, both or neither of the resistances 20 are heated.
