Abstract

481,277. Thermal switches. PARMENTER, F., [Representative of PAYNE, M.], and BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd. June 8, 1936, No. 16022. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XIII] In a thermostat for regulating room temperatures, the body part 1 is attached to and spaced from a wall 3 by a tubular extension 2, and is closed by a cap 4 having openings 5, and an extension 6 covering an opening 2a in the extension 2. A bimetallic strip 9 is carried by a support 10 threaded at 11 into the body 1, and carries a contact 13 at its free end co-operating with a fixed contact 14. Terminals 7, 8 are provided in the part 2. For adjusting the bimetallic strip, a bushing 21 is threaded on the part 11, and, when rotated, acts on a rod 16 supported by a bracket 18 carried by the strip, thereby adjusting the temperature control point of the strip. An open ended tube 23 encloses the strip. The construction facilitates the free flow of air over the strip, and the spacing away from the wall ensures that the strip is not affected by convection currents of air near the wall. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown). an electric heater is placed in the casing above the strip, to induce an upward circulation of air.
