Abstract

Acid-proof ceramic products are obtained by firing a mixture of a base material and a binder of alkali-metal silicate, the base material consisting of the porous rock formed from the clay from coal and lignite seams by the action of the atmosphere. Kaolin may be added to the mixture. To increase the resistance to acids of the products, the firing temperature may be increased, e.g. to 1600 DEG C., to produce a glass-like coating on the surface of the articles. Suitable base material is obtained by exposure of the clay in the open air for one or two months.
