Abstract

Double compounds of heavy metal organic mercapto compounds are prepared by reacting heavy metal compounds of glutathione or their alkali metal salts with organic or inorganic mono-sulphydryl compounds or their salts. The products possess therapeutic properties. The heavy metal compounds of glutathione are obtained when glutathione in its reduced form is treated in aqueous solution with the requisite amount of the metallic salt, precipitating with alcohol, and if desired converting it into its alkali metal salt. Examples are given of the interaction of (1) disodium auroglutathione and sodium thiosulphate; (2) disodium auroglutathione and sodium 1-thioglucose; (3) monosodium auroglutathione and glutathione itself; (4) disodium auroglutathione and monosodium glutathione. The sample furnished under Sect. 2 (5) is prepared by interaction in aqueous solution of monosodium cuproglutathione with monosodium glutathione in equimolecular proportions. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the use of amino-acids or polypeptides containing sulphydryl groups analogous to glutathione and mentions ergothionine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
