454,204. Making bungs and stoppers. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(American Flange & Manufacturing Co., Inc.; 4646, Arthington Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) Jan. 27, 1936, No. 2551. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [See also Group XVII] Jointing by forging. -A pressed - metal cup-shaped stopper or closure plug comprises a separate member spanning the interior of the cup and having its ends embedded in the side wall thereof. A circular sheet metal blank is cupped to form a member 16, Fig. 7, with its walls slightly flared outwardly. A bar 19 which may be flat, or as shown, formed by bending a rectangular blank to a U-section, is inserted in the cup 16 which is then upset between dies 20, 22, 23, Fig. 8, to thicken and compress the wall of the blank, and to cause the ends 19a, 19b of the bar 19 to be embedded therein. The blank is then provided with screw threads 25, and is cut to form a gasket seat 28 and head 26.
