Abstract
453,475. Revolving creels for gilling, doubling, drafting, and like machines. SMITH, W. PRINCE-, Hillbrook, Keighley, and AMBLER, G. H., Dumb Mills, Frizinghall, Bradford, both in Yorkshire. March 5, 1936, No. 6678. [Class 120 (ii)] In a revolving creel for use with gilling, doubling, drafting, and like machines each of the individual driving rollers C serving to rotate the balls of sliver is fitted with a stopmotion the action of which is controlled by the amount of the sliver extending from the corresponding ball to the machine. Each ball A is supported on fluted rollers B, C, Figs. 1 and 2, mounted respectively on shafts B<1>, C<1> each roller C being driven and each roller B being an idler. The roller C is provided with an end flange 1 projecting from a housing 2 having walls 3, 4 and enclosing a shouldered sleeve 5 integral with a boss 6 secured to the shaft C<1> by a set screw 7, Fig. 3, the boss 6 serving as the driver for the roller C by contact of one of three lugs 6A, 6B, 6C thereon with a lug 9A on a latch member 9 which is pivotally mounted on a pin 8 supported by bearing flanges 2A. The lug 9A on the latch 9 is projected forwardly into a slot 4A in the wall 4 by a spring 11, Fig. 4. A face cam 14 having a working surface 14A and formed with a tail-piece 14B is pivoted at 13 and a duplicate cam (not shown), is provided at 15. A collar 17 having a segmental slot 17A is secured on a stationary rod 16 a rocking arm or detent 18 being loose thereon and having a segmental projection or lug 18B narrower than the slot 17A, Fig. 6. A feeler is provided comprising a rod 21 supported on wires 20 projecting from collars 19 loose on the rod 16 and a bifurcated tappet comprising two curved fingers 22, 23 integral with the boss 19B of collar 19 is arranged to embrace the detent 18. When the sliver is being delivered normally to the machine it occupies the path S<1>, Fig. 2, and supports the rod 21 as shown dotted. When supplied in excess of demand it occupies the path S<2> and the rod 21 and wires 20 move angularly down to operate the stop-motion and stop the rotation of roller C which remains stationary till the slack is taken up and the sliver drawn back to the position S<1>. Lowering of the rod 21 moves the collars 19 angularly on the rod 16 until the tappet finger 22 engages the detent 18 and moves it angularly until the lug 18B reaches the end of the slot 17A. Then the nose of the detent 18 engages the member 14B and rocks the cam 14 so that the face 14A moves the latch member 9 until the lug 9A is withdrawn from the lug 6A, 6B, or 6C with which it is in contact thereby stopping the drive. As the sliver is used and returns to the position S<1> reverse angular movement of the collars 19 brings the tappet finger 23 into contact with the detent 18 removing its toe from the tail piece 14B of the cam 14 and permitting the spring 11 to force the latch 9 forward until the lug 9A again projects through the slot 4A and engages one of the lugs 6A, 6B, 6C.
