Abstract
374,211. Twisting-machines. LISTER & CO., Ltd. and WATSON, W. H., Manning- ham Mills, Bradford, Yorkshire. April 21, 1931, No. 11804. [Class 120 (ii).] In a twisting machine of the cap, ring, or flyer type having open-ended upper and lower feed rollers and spindle braking means, the elevation of the upper feed roller disconnects the lower feed roller from its drive and simultaneously arrests the motion all the elements composing a spindle unit so that the yarn may be set up on each unit correctly as regards tension, nip and wrapping with the feed rollers and spindles stationary. In each spindle unit yarn passes from a rear spindle 1, between feed rollers 26, 15, around a traverse guide (not shown), and around the lower feed roller 15 to a front lower spindle 2, a beam 11 carrying a bracket 12 for each unit which is driven from a common shaft 20 through a worm wheel 16. The worm wheel 16 is loosely mounted on an arbor 14 to which it can be operatively connected by a clutch having one member integral with the wheel and the other secured to the arbor. The arbor carries the lower feed roll 15 and is slidable in a housing 13 in the bracket 12. The lower feed roll 15 drives the upper feed roller 26 which is mounted in one arm 28 of a bell-crank lever pivoted to the bracket 12 at 29, providing by its second arm a handle 31. A rearward extension 54 of the lever engages a bent arm 50 carrying an adjustable stop 41 adapted to contact with a brake 38 for the spindle 1 and a stud 45 on the arm 28 is connected to a brake 42 for the spindle 2. In operation, raising the arm 28 by the handle 31 lifts the upper feed roll clear of the lower one and applies the brakes to the spindles, a stud 59 on the arm 28 simultaneously engaging a bent arm 58 pivoted at 56 to the bracket 12 and adapted to engage the rear face of the lower feed roll 15 to move the arbor 14 and free the clutch 22, 24. A trigger 32 on the handle 31 engages one or other side of a stop 35 fixed on the pivot 29 to lock the lever in either the operative or inoperative positions, thus leaving the operative with both hands free. The feed rollers may be disposed normal to or at an angle to the beam 11 or parallel with it.
