Abstract
452,965. Valve generating circuits. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Feb. 8, 1936, No. 3935. Convention date, April 18, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] In a saw-tooth generator in which a condenser 2 is periodically charged gradually through a resistance 4 and discharged abruptly through a tube 3, the rise of voltage across the condenser is made truly linear without the use of saturated valves in the charging circuit by including in the charging circuit a voltage derived from the condenser and acting in opposition to it. In the arrangements described in detail this voltage is obtained from a resistance 13 in the anode circuit of the last of an even number of tubes, the first of which has its grid coupled to the condenser, but it can be obtained from the last of an odd number of tubes if use is made of a multi-grid tube adjusted so that a voltage is set up in its anode circuit in phase with that supplied to its grid. It is shown that the tapping point on the resistance 13 should be adjusted so that the derived voltage is equal to the condenser voltage multiplied by 1+R1/R2 where R1 is the resistance of the charging resistance H and R2 is the resistance of the leak resistance 7 or alternatively that the derived and condenser voltages should be equal, an intermediate point on the resistance 7 being connected as shown to a point which has relatively to the cathode a voltage which is equal to and in phase with that of the grid. Fig. 4 shows a push-pull arrangement for giving to the deflecting plates of a cathode-ray tube equal voltages on either side of a fixed voltage. The charging and anode batteries may be separate, the point 13 being then connected to the resistance 4 through a blocking condenser and the supply battery being connected to the resistance 4 through a high resistance.
