Abstract
459,998. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., 63, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of MateriÚl Telephonique Soc. Anon.) June 5, 1936, No. 15819. Convention date, June 12, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] Saw-tooth or like oscillations of opposed phase are produced by charging two separate condensers through linear resistances and simultaneously discharging them through separate discharge tubes. As shown in Fig. 1, condensers 3, 4 are slowly charged respectively from sources 7, 8 through resistances 5, 6 and are discharged quickly through vacuum or gas-filled tubes 9, 10. The junction of the condensers 3, 4 is connected to the cathode of one tube and the anode of the other, so that the saw-tooth voltages applied to deflecting plates 1, 2 are in phase opposition. The junction of the condensers may be connected to the anode of the cathode-ray tube, and the cathode-anode circuit thereof may include the sources 8 and 11. The two tubes 9, 10 may be simultaneously rendered conductive by synchronizing - pulses applied through transformers or otherwise to their grids. In another arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a single source charges the condensers 3, 4 through the resistances 5, 6. The deflecting-plates 1, 2 are connected to the condensers 3, 4 through large condensers 14, 15, and the mean voltage of these plates is fixed by resistances 12, 13 connecting them to the anode of the cathoderay tube. Potentiometers may be provided for separate adjustment of the voltages on the deflecting-plates, Fig. 3 (not shown). The discharging-valves 9, 10 may be tripped by applying the synchronizing-pulse to the grid of one of them, and connecting the gridcathode circuit of the other across a resistance in the cathode lead of the first, Fig. 5 (not shown). A complete circuit for line and frame frequency oscillators with voltage supply arrangements for the electrodes of the cathoderay tube is also described, Fig. 6 (not shown). Specification 426,537 is referred to. The following abridgments should be inserted in place in this volume.
