Abstract
558,163. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., CHATTERJEA, P. K., and AMBROSE, D. M. June 19, 1942, No. 8438. [Class 40 (v)] The curvature of the scanning or slow stroke of the saw-tooth wave generated by a relaxation oscillator is compensated by the provision of a resistance potentiometer in the coupling between the generating and amplifying stages, the potentiometer including a thermistor, or thermally sensitive resistance element, adapted to change its resistance progressively in the same direction during each scanning stroke. The Figure shows a gas discharge tube V1 arranged to discharge condenser C1 charged through resistance R1. The voltage applied to the amplifier V2 is modified by the potentiometer formed by resistance R5 and thermistor T so as to compensate the curvature due to the decrease in the charging rate of condenser C1 as this becomes charged. As shown, a thermistor with a positive temperature co-efficient is used but a thermistor with a negative temperature coefficient may be used if interchanged with the resistance R5. The invention is also applicable to other forms of relaxation oscilators.
