Abstract

451,117. Valve generating circuits. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., and BEDFORD, L. H., Highbury Grove, London. Jan. 29, 1935, No. 2956. [Class 40 (v)] In a condenser-relaxation oscillator for use in television scanning and in oscillographs, a compensating-voltage opposite in phase to its anode voltage is applied to a grid of the condenser-charging valve, with the object of linearizing the charging-curve of the condenser. The compensating-voltage is provided by an auxiliary valve. As shown, the condenser C1 is charged through a saturated valve V1 and discharges through a valve V2. A fraction of the voltage variations across the valve V1 is applied by a condenserpotentiometer C2, C3, to the grid of an auxiliary valve V3 the anode of which is fed through a resistance R3. Voltages of equal magnitude and opposite phase are fed from the anodes of valves V2, V3 through condensers to the deflecting-plates PX1, PX2 of the cathoderay tube O. A fraction of the anode voltage of the valve V3 is fed back by a potentiometer R7 and a condenser to the grid of the valve V1, so that in spite of ohmic leaks across the valve V1 or incomplete saturation the charging-curve for the condenser C1 is maintained linear. In a modification, the anode current of the valve V3 traverses a variable resistance in the cathode lead of the valve V1, the grid of which is connected directly or through a condenser to the negative supply N. Another grid in the valve V1 may be used for velocity modulation or other purposes, and a pentagrid valve may be employed. Specification 448,111 is referred to.
