[Also in Group XL (c)] The invention relates to a combination of two circuits for producing D.C. voltages respectively proportional to two A.C. voltages which respectively represent in amplitude and polarity the sine. and cosine of an angular position. In each circuit the A.C. voltage is used to amplitude modulate short duration pulses which occur in synchronism with the A.C. voltage and the required D.C. voltage is derived from the pulses. The modulation may be achieved by adding to the A.C. voltage short pulses 11 of constant amplitude, preferably at the peak of the cycle and the D.C. voltage may be obtained from the portion of the pulse above a datum level 12. Alternatively, in the circuit shown, positive pulses applied to the grid of a triode V1B raise the corresponding cathode potential rendering a diode V2B conducting and applying a pulse to the grid of a valve V3. When the diode anode potential reaches the potential of the cathode of a triode V1A a diode V2A conducts and prevents any further rise of D.C. output pulse. The potential of the cathode of VIA and thus the peak value of the pulse applied to the grid of valve V3 depends on the instantaneous value of the 1000 c/s. A.C. voltage applied to the grid of valve V3. A D.C. restorer diode V4 is connected to grid of V3 and the grid is biased beyond cut-off so that only the peaks of the pulses render the valve conducting. The anode current pulses are integrated in a circuit R10, C3 and the resulting output is applied to a cathode follower stage V5. The D.C. output of the cathode follower stage is applied as negative feed-back to the grid of the input triode V1A and this reduces distortion and obviates the necessity of ensuring that the amplitude of the applied pulses is greater than the peak-to-peak value of the A.C. wave input.
