Abstract
588,417. Pulse generating valve circuits. JELONEK, Z., ANDERSON, E. W., MACMILLAN, J. G., and McDERMOTT, T. J. Feb. 16, 1945, No. 4026. [Class 40 (v)] In a valve circuit for producing an abrupt wavefront under the control of a cyclically varying voltage, means are provided for developing a bias voltage proportional to the amplitude of the control voltage for application wholly, or in part, to the valve to determine the position of the wavefront independent of changes in the amplitude of the control voltage. In the Figure, valve V1 has screen and stippressor grids coupled by capacitor C1 in a transitron circuit. A negative sawtooth waveform is applied to the grids through a resistor to initiate transitron action and divert anode current to the screen grid when the potential of the suppressor grid falls to a critical value relative to the cathode potential. The resulting wavefront at the anode is differentiated by network C4, R7 to produce a positive strobe pulse, and the circuit reverts to its original condition when the input sawtooth waveform rises again to the critical valve, Diodes D1, D2 charge capacitors C2, C3 respectively to produce a steady voltage across potentiometer network R3, R4, R5, equal to the peak-to-peak amplitude of the sawtooth waveform, and a constant fraction of this voltage is applied to the grid of valve V1 to determine the cathode bias across R2 and stabilize the position of the strobe pulse against variations in amplitude of the sawtooth waveform. Resistors R3, R5 represent potentiometers tapping control voltages to further valve stages of a similar type in a multi-channel system producing a train of pulses spaced in time along the sawtooth waveform. These pulses may be time modulated by applying separate modulating voltages to the grids of each stage. Specification 588,416 is referred to.
