Abstract
747,573. Saw-tooth generating circuits; radar; cathode-ray tube circuits. CINEMA. TELEVISION, Ltd. Sept. 1, 1954 [Sept. 1, 1953], No. 24151/53. Classes 40 (6) and 40 (7). A circuit for generating a magnetic field having a first linear relation to an input voltage over a range about zero, other linear relations in ranges beyond and a fixed value beyond that comprises a pair of valves 1, 2 coupled by a constant current device 3 in their common cathode lead and coils 13, 14 in series with tapped resistances 15, 16 and 17, 18 in each anode-cathode lead, the taps being connected through rectifiers 20, 22 and resistors 19, 21 to the opposite anode. The anodes currents will respond to grid voltage changes as at OA and OA<SP>1</SP> until one or other of the diodes conducts when the response will be as at AB or AB<SP>1</SP> until one valve passes the whole of the current that the constant current valve 3 will pass whereupon no further change of current occurs. Further diodes may be provided to produce regions of different slope to approximate to any desired characteristic and the rectifiers may be connected such that the characteristic is asymmetric with respect to the origin. Further, the diodes may be reversed so that the slope increases instead of decreases. The circuit is suitable for use for deflecting the beam of a C.R. tube in a radar P.P.I. system to provide regions of different scale around the central region.
