N., c /o Wood & Co., Ltd., H., Sun Buildings, Newcastle-on- Tyne, MOLL, W., Witten-on-Ruhr, Germany, and WOOD & CO., Ltd., H., Sun Buildings, Newcastle-on-Tyne. May 23, 1936, No. 14652. [Class 20 (ii)] Mine - arch supports comprise strut sections with resilient packing between the ends of the sections, which are cut to concave shape and are provided with bearing shoes rigid with the flanges of the sections to abut against the packing. The concave ends of the strut members 2 may be provided with curved shoes of strip metal 3, Fig. 4, bolted to the ends of the struts. These shoes bear directly on the packing, which may comprise an open-seamed tube 4 wood-filled, and a surrounding segmental wooden casing 6. Clamping bands 7 are arranged on each side of the joint to prevent lateral movement of the strut ends. The shoes may be formed by cutting away the ends of the webs of the sections and bending over the flanges 2b, Fig. 1, the lengths of the bent-over portions being such that their ends clear each other. The bent-over portions may be of such a length that when bent over to form shoes the shoes are of greater depth than the section-bar.
