Abstract

N., Sun Buildings, Newcastle-on-Tyne, MOLL, W., Witten, Ruhr, Westphalia, Germany, and WOOD & CO., Ltd., H., Sun Buildings, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Jan. 26, 1935, No. 2598. [Class 20 (ii)] Mine-arch supports comprise strut sections with resilient packing between the sections, and clamping bands around the packing to prevent lateral movement of the ends of the sections. The resilient packing is formed as a tubular member 1 packed with sand, wood, or cork, or like material, and the ends of the curved strut sections 7 are shaped to fit around the packing, and abut against the bands 3, which are secured to the packing by flanges 3<a> slotted to receive the ends of the struts and so prevent lateral movement of the struts. In a modification, further packing 10, 10<a>, Fig. 4 may be interposed between the ends of the struts and the jointing member and an enlarged clamping band 12 formed on two hinged parts surrounds the outer packing, the flanges of the section supports 7 being bolted or welded to the projecting flanges of the band. The other ends of the strut sections abut on clamping bands 8 which surround bearing members 1 supported by uprights 9.
