450,754. Heat-exchange apparatus for milk &c. KNOCH, H., Homeleigh, Bourton, Dorset. Dec. 7, 1935, No. 35125. [Class 64 (iii)] Apparatus for heating milk &c. comprises detachable concentric tubular shells 2, 3, 4, forming an annular milk space 1 having an inlet 11 at its lower end and an outlet 10 at its upper end, and spaces 5, 6 for heating medium, e.g. steam, which is admitted to, and discharged therefrom, through pipes 5b, 6b and 5c, 6c respectively. The surfaces of the shells 2, 3 exposed to the milk are coated with glass or enamel and the innermost shell is formed with an enlargement to which the flanged ends of the other shells are secured by bolts, a packing ring 7 being inserted between the enlargement and the flange of the shell 3. Another form of apparatus comprises an outer casing or chest 15, Figs. 3, 4, having shells 3 into which project extensions 2 on the hollow door 15a thus forming milk spaces 1. The door is mounted on wheels supported on rails 23 and is secured to the face of the casing, which is provided with a rubber gasket 16, by bolts 19. The milk is admitted to, and discharged from, the spaces 1 through pipes 17, 18 respectively, and the steam is admitted to the upper ends of the chest and the door through pipes 5b, 6b respectively, and discharged through pipes 5c, 6c. The milk outlets may be connected to evacuated receivers.
