[Class 8 (i)] [See also Group XXIX] A vacuum cleaner has a motor driven fan 1 which may draw air through either the suction nozzle 3 or the hollow handle 5. A conical valve seating 6 has ports communicating with the pipes 4, 5 and valve member 9 is pressed onto its seat by a spring 12 and controls the path of the air to the fan. In a modification, a valve is used having a ported flange 14 engaging a flat seat. A transparent cover 13 is fitted to the valve member 9.
