[Class 102 (i)] [See also Group XXVII] A fuel-injection pump comprises a plunger 146 which commences to deliver fuel to an injection valve 110 when the end of the plunger covers the port 180 and ceases when the helical groove 154 opens this port. A feed pump piston 208 is fixed to the plunger 146 and draws fuel through the suction valve 216 and delivers it through the valve 218 to the port 180. A relief valve 220 is provided to byepass the excess fuel. The output by the plunger 146 is controlled by rotating it by the rod 160. The plunger 146 delivers fuel through the port 166 and filter 174, which is in the form of a coiled strip, to a V-shaped groove 132 in the member 128. The groove 132 is connected by a recess 134 and ports 136, 114, recess 112 and grooves in the member 108 to the seat 116 of the fuel injection valve. This valve is loaded by an adjustable spring 118 and its lift is limited bv a washer 138. Leakage is returned by the ports 124, 140, 144, 184 to the suction port 180. The Provisional Specification describes also a modified form of injection valve wherein the filter is arranged laterally in the injector casing and the valve is provided with a feeler pin to feel the action.
