449,986. Preparing fuel. ROBERTS, A., 20, Raydon Avenue, Leytonstone, and SMITH, C. W., Bush House, Aldwych, both in London, [Representatives of ROBERTS, A. A.]. Oct. 4, 1934, No. 28422. [Class 50] A solution, suspension or emulsion of a boron compound such as boric acid, a borate, or boron soaps such as boro-resinates, with or without sodium chloride is intimately distributed in powdered coal or coke to be conveyed to burners. The agents may be mixed in with coal slurry which may be further ground prior to drying for use as powdered fuel. Insoluble materials such as calcium borate suspension may be used or waterproofing substances may be included or sprayed over the treated fuel, e.g. glue and formaldehyde or potassium bichromate, or a solution of alginic acid or alginates, or a solution of casein with or without formaldehyde. Usually ¢ per cent by weight of any one agent and not more than 4 per cent in all is employed. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of ferric oxide. Specification 414,368 is referred to.
