449,608. Arrangement of vehicle wheel axles. HEGGADON, R. T., Boxhill, Crownhill, Plymouth. Feb. 25, 1935, No. 36926/34. [Class 108 (ii)] [See also Group I] An adjustable telescopic axle is provided particularly for rakes which are adapted to be expanded or contracted the axle being telescoped by the action of the ground, during longitudinal movement of the rake, on the wheels which are deflected outward or inwards from their usual parallel paths of travel. The axle A is provided with side axles B which are adapted to slide in brackets D, X, in which they are held in adjusted deflected position. Travel in the direction of the arrow would cause the side axles to slide inwardly while travel in the other direction would cause them to slide outwardly. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the wheels c are pivoted to the side axles B which telescope into the main axle A. Fig. 4 shows another form in which the wheels are mounted on the main and side axles A, B by distorted mountings K, adjustment being effected by handles J. In Fig. 5, the main and side axles A, B are provided with deflected journals upon which the wheels are mounted by means of bushes bored as shown. Rotation of the bushes gives the desired deflection of the wheel.
