Abstract

448,643. Electric couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RICHARDS, S. W., Magnet House, Kingsway, London. Jan. 11, 1935, No. 1066. [Class 38 (i)] The sheath of a cable 1 entering a coupling- member, e.g. for a coal-cutting machine, is gripped by a conical rubber &c. gland 3, within a tapered metal sleeve 2 screw-threaded at 10 to receive a nut 4, rotation of which compresses the gland and so increases the grip. A washer is inserted between the nut and gland and apertures 8 in the metal sleeve allow manipulation of a tool for rotating the nut. An outer two-diameter sleeve 6 encases the metal sleeve in a flame-proof manner and also shrouds the plug-pins 16 mounted on a disc 17 secured by screws to the flange 11 of the sleeve 2.
