448,488. Hydraulic transmission of power. WANDERER - WERKE VORM. WINKLHOFER & JAENICKE AKT.-GES., Schonau, near Chemnitz, Germany. Aug. 16, 1935, No. 23064. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1934. [Class 69 (ii)] Hydraulic power transmission mechanism for milling and other machine tools is provided with a member adapted to be made subject to the pressure of the working medium, so that it is displaceable thereby against resilient biassing means to control the exhaust or counter pressure, and adjusting means whereby the apparatus may act to vary the counter pressure or maintain it substantially constant. The apparatus comprises a piston 3, Figs. 1 and 4, loaded by a spring 8, the pressure of which may be adjusted by means of a screwed member 10, and working in a ported sleeve 2. The sleeve may be turned into various operative positions, and held in them by a spring-pressed member 38, the positions being indicated by a pointer 30 and scale 31. When the sleeve is in the position shown, the pump pressure acts through a pipe 23 on the piston 3 in opposition to the spring 8, and the piston moves to vary degree of throttling and thus the pressure of the exhaust liquid passing through pipes 22, 20. When the sleeve is turned through 180‹, the pump pressure no longer obtains access to the piston, and the exhaust pressure is kept at a constant value determined by the setting of the spring. When the sleeve is in an intermediate position, shown in Fig. 6, the exhaust is not throttled.
