Abstract
448,371. Centrifugal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 7, 1935, No. 24951. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1934. [Class 38 (v)] A centrifugal switch comprises a metal plate 11 connected bv metal studs 10 to a collector disc 5 mounted on a rotatable shaft 1. An arm 15, mounted on an integral tongue 13 of plate 11, carries on one side a weight 18 and on the other side a contact 16 arranged opposite a contact 9 connected to a second collector disc 4 on shaft 1. A spring 17 is mounted in compression between one end of arm 15 and a button 20 on an arm 14 connected to an integral tongue 12 of plate 11. The pressure of spring 17 is adjustable by a screw 19. The Figure shows the switch at full speed when the centrifugal force of weight 18 has turned arm 15 clockwise against spring 17 to open the circuit at contacts 16, 9. A weight 21 on arm 14 tends to turn the arm clockwise and reduce friction on screw 19. Current is led to the switch by brushes 7, 8.
