Abstract
448,306. Adjustable seats. WHEDON, Inc., Medina, New York, U.S.A. July 2, 1935, No. 18866. Convention date, March 27. [Class 52 (ii)] In an adjustable seat for motor vehicles, the seat bottom 66 is forwardly and rearwardly adjustable on laterally spaced members 25 of inverted channel form which are supported by pairs of laterally aligned links 17, 18 pivoted to base members 16 of channel section. The links each comprise two flat pieces of metal secured together but spaced at the ends to form forks, and opposite links are kept in alignment by tubular transverse braces 29, 30 integral with the inner parts of the links. Torsion springs tending to raise, the seat are associated with the links. Vertical adjustment is effected by means of links 33 pivoted to channel members 37 which slide within the channel members 25 and are retained therein by inturned flanges 40, Fig. 5. Notches in the slides 37 are engaged by fingers 46 on arms 48 carried by a transverse rod 50 mounted in lugs on the members 25 and actuated by a hand lever. The seat is supported at the rear on suspension links 60, Fig. 2, pivoted to the members 25 and to standards 63 secured to the seat base. The front of the seat is supported on rollers 69 mounted on brackets 68 and bearing on the members 25, Fig. 4. Locking means for fore-and-aft adjustment comprise arms 73 mounted on a spring controlled rod 70 and engaging notches in the members 25. The U-shaped seat back is pivoted to the base at 96, Fig. 2, and angular adjustment is effected by means of a notched bar 105 pivoted to the base and engaging a bracket 110 on the back. A spring controlled actuating bar 116 has a cranked end which engages a slot in the bar 105 and normally keeps the notched edge of the bar in engagement with the bracket. A coil spring 108 tending to raise the back is located around the bar 105.
