[Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group XXV] The strands of a wire rope are distorted so as to fit snugly against the adjacent strands in the rope while they are helically preformed by passing the assembled wires, closed by a die 34, between pairs of rolls 58 .. 63 mounted in a rotating frame 22. The apertures between the rolls are of wedge shape, and the intermediate pair of rolls 60, 61 are offset with respect to the other two pairs. The outer pairs of rolls are adjustable axially of the rope, and the central pair can be adjusted at right angles to the axis of the rope.
