Abstract

447,573. Braking device for aircraft. OROPESA, J. M. C. DE, 113, Calle de San Bernardo, Madrid. May 15, 1935, No. 14200. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1934. [Class 4] A braking device for use on aeroplanes comprises one or more endless chain or bands of material containing rubber which are normally nested in the tail end of the fuselage, Fig. 1, but which may be lowered to a groundcontacting position, Fig. 2, and which are adapted to be driven in reverse sense of rotation to that of the front landing wheels. As shown, a chain 1 is mounted on a pulley 3 with a fixed axle and on pulleys 2 having movable axles. Axles of pulleys 2 are vertically slidable in guides 7, under the control of means such as pneumatic jacks, but manual means may be provided for the raising operation which is effected when the craft is at rest. Pulley 3 constitutes the driving wheel of the chain 1 its axle being formed with cranks engaged by the connecting rods of a compressed air motor. Means are provided for raising a tail skid or tail wheel prior to bringing the braking device into operation.
