446,565. Adjusting radial axles for steering. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIEGES., Neuhausen, Switzerland. Sept. 17, 1935, Nos. 25794 and 25795. Convention dates, Sept. 26, 1934 and Feb. 13, 1935. [Class 79 (v)] [See also Group XXXII] In a railway vehicle of the kind in which the body is supported at one or both ends upon a bogie equipped with a pair of radiating axles, the frames 5, 6 carrying the axles 9, 10, which are swivelly mounted in the bogie by pivots 3, 4, are articulated to each other near the middle of the bogie preferably by a joint 7 permitting relative longitudinal movement, while one of the frames or an extension thereof is connected by a pivot or guide point 8 on the vehicle body, so that, owing to the movement of the body relative to the bogie on a curve, the frames 5, 6 are swung so as to position the axles radially to the curve. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the pivots 3, 4 are arranged directly above the centres of the axles 9, 10, and the guide pivot 8, located on the centre line of the body, is directly associated with the frame 5. Modifications are described in which the pivot 8 is associated with an extension of the frame 6 and in which the pivots 3, 4 are disposed either to the inside or outside of the axles 9, 10. Also, the centre bearing 2 may be disposed centrally or otherwise so as to load the axles equally or unequally. In a modification, Fig. 4, in order that the ordinary lateral movements of the body occurring in normal running may not cause unwanted radiation of the axles, the body pivot 8 is connected to the articulation 7 by means of a link 12 pivotally connected to a swinging bell-crank lever 11<a>, 11<b>. Lateral movements of the body relative to the bogie affect the link 12 only, while movement of the bell-crank lever occurs only when the body pivots on the bogie in negotiating a curve. The necessary relative longitudinal movement between the frames 5, 6 may be provided for by the use of rubber blocks at the joint 7. For effecting a displacement of the connecting-point 7 the use of intermediate hydraulic means may be resorted to.
