Abstract
457,558. Railway &c. vehicle couplings. DEVLIN, S. R., 9,' Buller Street, Derby. Aug. 26, 1935, No. 23887. [Class 103 (v)] In an articulated railway &c. vehicle the adjacent ends of two carriages are supported upon a single-axle bogie, which is associated with means for permitting the necessary articulation whilst at the same time preventing relative lateral or vertical movement between the two carriage bodies. In the construction shown the adjacent ends 11, 12 of the carriage underframes are adapted to pivot on bearings 13, 14 on a pair of transverse bolsters 25, 26 which in turn are supported by springs 23, 24 on planks 21, 22 suspended from the bogie frame 18 by swinging links 20. A tooth or projection 48 with curved faces on the underframe 12 enters a recess 49 on the underframe 11 to prevent relative displacement other than the desired articulation. These interengaging elements of the two carriages may either be formed integrally with the underframes or be secured thereto by bolts or equivalent. They may also take the form of interengaging involute teeth, or of one or more links hinging about vertical pivots on the two carriages. In place of the swinging bolsters 25, 26, bolsters rigid with the frame 18 may be employed.
