446,543. Stays; hinges. RING, J. M. R., 29, Ulvsundavõgen, Ulvsunda, Stockholm. Jan. 29, 1935, Nos. 2976 and 2977. Convention dates, Oct. 26, 1934 and Dec. 10, 1934. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] A window stay comprises a rod 3, pivoted to the sash or, as shown, the frame at 13 and engaging in a hole in a guide member 5 pivoted on the frame or sash, the hole being shaped to allow the guide member to engage one of a series of notches 7 in the rod 3, and a catch 10 mounted on the same member as the stay-rod pivot 13 to engage the rod to hold the window closed. The pivot 13 is arranged to allow universal movement, the end of the stay having curved upper and lower faces fitting between the lugs 14, Fig. 7, of a bracket which, in the form shown, carries the pivot pin 13, the hole in the end of the stay-rod being elongated to allow the stay to rock on the pin. The curved faces of the stay may be part-spherical and the hole enlarged to allow rocking in all directions ; in a modification, the pin is carried by the stay and engages holes in the lugs 14 with sufficient play to allow rocking. The stay-rod has at its free end a detachable handle which also acts as a stop, this being of ball form 8<1>, Fig. 7, or of reversible hook form 8, Fig. 1.
