Abstract
446,481. Testing balance of rotary apparatus. KUCHENMEISTER, C. W., 16, John Dalton Street, Manchester. Dec. 17, 1935, No. 34974. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a machine for testing dynamic balance in which the rotor is carried in rocking arms connected to a beam which can oscillate about a fulcrum in one of the compensating planes, the beam being oscillated due to the out of balance forces in, but not carrying the weight of the latter. The rotor a to be balanced is supported on rollers b, c upon rocking arms d, e in a frame h. The arms are connected by links i, j to a beam k having a fulcrum m on a bracket n which can be adjusted along the machine base. The arms are constrained to rest in mid position by springs o, o<1> which can be adjusted by screws p, p<1>. The arm e is adapted to be connected to an arm q pivoted about a boss on the rocking arm e, springs similar to springs o, o<1> holding the arm q in mid position and with it the arm e when arms q, e are interconnected by a stud e<1>. The link j is secured to an arm s also pivoted about a boss on the arm e and which is adapted to be attached to the arm e by a stud t. In use, the fulcrum m is located in the first balancing plane and the arm s is connected to the arm e. The rotor is run up to the resonance speed of springs o, o<1>, and with the other springs put out of action, a vibrating of the beam occurs about the fulcrum m. Compensation for this is effected in the other balancing plane. The arm s is now freed from arm e and the arm q connected, the arm d being locked or the rotor driven at the resonance speed of the other pair of springs. Compensation is now effected in the first-balancing plane when the rotor is completely balanced.
