Abstract

Forms and models with characteristic movements; boards, reoiprocating; elements moving always in one plane, oscillating; actuating.- In vibration-operated display apparatus carried by a vehicle the inertia unit consists of two or more masses attached to a substantially vertical shaft 5. the masses 8, 9 being disposed in more than one radial plane and either being located at different distances from the shaft or being of different weights. The display device may comprise stencils &c. 37 each of which is rocked about a pivot 38 by a rod 39 reciprocated by a lever 34. A similar rod 43 connected by pin and slot 42 to the lower ends of the stencils 37 is pivoted to the other end of the 34. The lever 34 is oscillated from the shaft 5 by gearing 28, 29 and an adjustable pitman 31. Alternatively the stencils may be pivoted to the frame at one point and be rocked by only one rod, or the stencils may be rigidly mounted on a support reciprocated by the shaft 5. A universal joint may be provided in the pitman 31 to allow the angle of the plane in which the stencils lie to be adjusted relatively to the shaft 5 to enable the stencils to be viewed in a mirror located beneath, or by transmitted light reflected by a mirror located behind. Fig. 1 shows a modification in which figures 25, 26 are actuated by levers and gearing from the vertical shaft 5 carrying the masses 8, 9. A weight 27 balances one of the members 25.
