This invention relates to a stirring device including a stirring blade mounted for movement about the axis of oscillation of a trough of substantially half-round section and has 53 for, its object to provide a construction permitting a'large throw of the stirring blade and easy and convenient tilting of the trough.
Particularly the necessity for tilting the trough heretofore involved great difficulties in the practical operation of such devices or has been a source of trouble to the attendant.
When it was desired to tilt a trough with the running of the stirring mechanism while the trough was being tilted.
These drawbacks are overcome if the 30. trough can be tilted free from hindrance also. during the movement of the stirring It has heretofore been proposed mechanism directly on to the side of the trough so that it could be rocked together with the trough. Such a construction, how
ever. rendersthe troughtoo unhandy and also the cleaning of the trough and the lubrication of the stirrer actuating mechanism present fresh difliculties. All these drawbacks are avoided and the object above set forth realized in simple manner by the construction according to the prescut invention hereinafter described and illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing.

If during the crank movement tilting'move ment of the trough is initiated, the pinion f is y given by the movement at the otherwise etay i i tionary gear g an additional turning movement, or its actual turning movement is diminished, depending on the direction of tilt; that is, differential movements are produced. As the result the stirrer d in the trough a is always confined to predetermined paths and always sweeps the same portions of the wall of the trough in whatever position the trough a may be located.
In Figs. 8 and 4 it is shown that instead of bevel gears for actuating the stirrer mechanism there may also be used spur gears. In the construction according to Fig. 3 there are used two internally toothed gears or segments Z and h in place of the members Z and h, and a spur wheel 9 in place of the bevel gear 9. In the construction according to Fig. 4 a single internally toothed member 9 is substituted for the member 9 and two spur gear segments Z and 72/ are substituted for Z and It. In both constructions (Figs. 3 and 4:) instead of the spindle i (Fig. 2) on which the pinion 7 turns, there is provided a rock lever r to which is secured a pin to carry the gear f or 7.
I claim 1. The combination of a trough of substantially half-round section tiltable about its axis on a hollow shaft, of a stirrer mounted for rocking movement about said axis, a stirrer shaft aligned with said axis for actuating said stirrer, and stirrer shaft actuating mechanism including an actuating pinion, and differential gearing co-operative with said pinion and interposed between said shafts, said gearing comprising a gear member freely rotatable about said axis and meshing with said pinion, a gear member fixed to rotate with said trough and also meshing with said pinion, and a pinion rotatable about a fixed axis and engaged with both said gear members.
2. The combination of a trough of substantially half-round section tiltable about its axis, of a stirrer mounted for rocking movement about said axis, a hollow shaft fixed to said trough in the line of said axis, a stirrer shaft extending through said hollow shaft, and stirrer actuating mechanism including an actuating pinion and differential gearing comprising a set of gears co-operative with said pinion and interposed between said shafts.
