[Class 38 (ii)] In a polyphase regulating transformer each of the core limbs 12, 13 or 14 corresponding to one phase of the primary winding is subdivided into a number (e.g. six) of parallel fluxpaths, and each phase of the secondary winding (one of which is shown in Fig. 4) is divided into a corresponding number of series-connected parts 20 ... 25 arranged one on each core limb. Each part is tapped, and the tappings are associated with fixed contacts arranged in sets corresponding to half the number of winding parts. Regulation is effected by movable contacts 26, 27, 28 which in the lower positions shown provide maximum voltage at the terminals 29, 30. Voltage is lowered by an amount equal to that of the section 34 by movement of the contact 26 one step. During this movement the section 34 is short-circuited, but circulating current is kept low by reason of the flux in the corresponding limb portion being diverted into the other five limb portions. Further regulation is effected bv successive movements of the contacts 27 and 28. The movable contacts may be interconnected by gearing adapted to effect the necessary cyclical movements thereof in regulating from maximum voltage to zero. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subjectmatter of Specifications 10986 /35 and 10987 /35. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
