446,313. Shaping the bottom of a garment. SEVILLA, A. E., 8, Harehills Avenue, Leeds. May 22, 1935, No. 14952. [Class 141] [See also Group XXV] A cutting-appliance for shaping the bottom of a garment consists of hand or electricallyoperated shears which are mounted for vertical adjustment on a stand or support. In the form shown, the pivot pin 3 of the hand shears 1 is extended and bears in a supporting arm 2 which is slidable on a vertical rod 13 provided with a base 14 and a pin tray 20. The pin 3 is screwed into the upper blade 5 of the shears until a shoulder thereon engages a countersunk recess in the lower blade 4 to hold the blades together ; a lock nut 8 is then screwed on. In modifications, the shears may be attached to the arm 2 by a ball joint ; the arm 2 may be vertical or the arm 2 and rod 13 may be telescopic. The appliance may be fixed adjacent a dummy carrying a garment and the dummy revolved, or the dummy may be fixed and the appliance moved round it either on runners or on an arm pivoted about the stem of the dummy. According to the Provisional Specification, the blades of the shears may be pressed together by a spring mounted on the pin 3 between the arm 2 and the lower blade 4 and adjustable by a collar slidable on the pin.
