689,756. Garment cutting or marking device. EVANS, S. G. Feb. 8, 1951 [Feb. 8, 1950], No. 3074/51. Class 141. [Also in Group VIII] A device for cutting or marking the lower edges of garments consists of a base and a vertical rod on which an arm member is mounted so as to be freely rotatable and slidable therealong, means being provided for holding it at the required elevation, and cutting or marking means being mounted at the outer end of the arm member. As shown, the arm member is formed in two parts 12, 13 hinged together at 14, and is mounted on the vertical rod 9 by a boss 15, ball bearings 16, 17 giving free movement and a counterbalance 18 being provided. A screw fitted clamp 19 secures the arm member at the correct height and a swivelling scissors holder 20 is mounted on an axle 21 at the outer end of the arm member 13. A dress-maker's model may be mounted on the upper end of the rod 9 or the device may be used on a garment being worn. The scissors may be replaced by a power cutting device or marking device.
