Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 5, 1921.
Application led April 6, 1920. Serial No. 371,697.
.To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HATTIE L. Hines, a citizen of the United States, residing at IJrinceville, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt- Markers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a skirt marker.
rihe object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and efficient skirt marker of strong and durable construction adapted to enable a skirt to be quickly and accurately marked so that the length of the skirt will be uniform atall points.
W ith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction, within the scope of the ciaims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit cr sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing in which like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures:
Figure l is a side elevation of a skirt marker constructed in accordance with this invention. 4
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the same partly in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a cross section of the hollow arm taken on the line of Fig. 2.
Fig. il is a plan view of the chalk holder and showing the vertically adjustable rod in cross section.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention the skirt marker comprises in its construction stand l preferably in the form of a. four-legged stool having centrally mounted in it a vertical adjustable screw 2 provided at its upper end with a horizontal att-aching plate 3 to which is secured a horizontal platform or support 4t. The plattorni or support is adapted to receive the person being fitted and the screw 2 has mounted on its upper portion a vertical sleeve 5 carrying a horizontal arm 6 preferably rectangular in cross-section and receiving a telescoping rod 7. The sleeve is adapted to rotate on the upper portion of the screw above the threads 8 thereof and the hollow arm is provided at its outer portion with a set screw 9 for securing the telescoping rod 7 in its adjustment.
.The horizontal telescoping rod 7 is provided at its outer end with a vertical sleeve l0 recelving a vertical measuring rod ll and provided with a set screw 12 for securing the measuring rod in its vertical adjustment. The measuring` rod 11 which is provided with suitable graduations is adapted to be raised and lowered to arrange a chalk holder I3 in proper' position with relation to the platform or support 4f. The chalk holder 18 which is mounted on the upper portion of the measuring rod may be of any desired construction and when the measuring rod is adjusted vertically to arrange the chalk holder in proper position the horizontal hollow arm is adapted to lbe swung` around the upper portion of the screw 2 to enable the skirt to be quickly and accurately marked so that every portion of the skirt will be of uniform length. The adjustment of the telescoping rod and the vertical adjustment of the measuring rod will enable the chalk holder to be adjusted inwardly and outwardly as well as upwardly and downwardly and the chalk is adapted to be arranged at the desired elevation and also the desired distance from the center of the platform. In this manner the chalk may be made te lightly touch and properly mark a skirt or other garment.
`What is claimed is:
A garment marker including a stool, a rotary platform provided with a depending screw'having a threaded lower' portion and a smooth upper portion, the threaded portion being mounted in the stool, a hollow horizontal arm located between the stool and the platform and provided at its upper end with a sieeve arranged on the smooth portion of the screw, a horizontally adjustable rod telescoping` into the hollow arm and provided at its outer end with a vertical sleeve, a graduated vertical rod adjustably mounted in the vertical sleeve, a. horizontal marking device located above the platform and having a collar adjustably mounted on the upper portion of the graduated rod, and means mounted on the hollow arm and the vertical sleeve for clamping the horizontal rod and the graduated vertical rod in their adjustment.
In testimonyV whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
