To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LCnmsrornnn S. \VIL- LIAM-S, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in- Skirt Markers and Trimmers, of which the following is a specification. I

My invention relates todevices for marking skirts and particularly those devices which are set upon the floor and carry an adjustable marking plate adapted to be set at various hei hts against which a skirt can be pressed and marked.

The object of the invention is to provide a skirt marker having a rotatable plate upon which av person may stand and having projecting from the support for this rotatable plate, a graduated standard having a marking plate or blade adjustably thereon.

Another object is to provide means whereby the skirt may be cut, as it is marked, without the necessity of first marking the skirt and then removing it from engagement with the device and then cutting it.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a skirt. marker adapted to support a pair of scissors at various heights,

the scissors being operated as-the person wearing the skirt turns, so that the skirt is cutoff at the proper height all-around.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is aperspective .view of my de vice; Fig. 2 is a plan thereof; Fig. 3 is a side elevation, the base and rotatable platform in section; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the base, the rotatable platform being removed; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the graduated arm removed; and, Fig. (3 is a fragmentary side elevation showing my device as applied to marking a skirt. a

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to these drawings, 2 designates a circular base of any suitable construction, but arranged to have a firm bearing upon the floor. This base has upwardly projecting from it a tubular hub 3. A rotatable mounted plate 4 is mounted upon the hub 3 and has a centrally downwardly projecting stem '5- adapted to extend into the tubular portion of the hub, thus the upper plate 4 is ada ted to rotate with relation to the lower p ate. This upper plate ispreferably perforated or otherwise cutaway to render it light, but

is not so cut away as; to prevent its being used as a platform, upon which the person whose skirt is being marked may stand; It

will be obvious that balls 6 maybe placed between the upper edge of the hub 3 and the transverse flange 7 on the stem 5, so that the platform may rotate with great ease.

Detachably mounted upon the hub 3 is the vertical graduated measurin rod 8. This rod at its lower end is turneat right angles, as at 9, and the inner extremity of this bent portion is formed with a sleeve 10 adapted to fit over the hub 3. A set screw 11 holds the sleeve in a rigid relation to the hub 3, but permits the sleeve with the graduated bar to be removed from the hub when desired. is approximately circular in section, but has a flattened side face. Mounted upon the vertical portion of the graduated rod is the marking plate 12 which is approximately arcuate in form and is formed with a sleeve 13 adapted to slip over the rod 8 and move up and down thereon. A set screw 14.- holds the' marking plate set in any desired position upon the rod 8. The rod 8 is graduated to any suit-able scale, preferably inches. The outer edge of the marking plate is beveled, as seen in Fig. 6; Mounted upon the rear end of the marking plate is the scissors clamp 15. This has a bifurcated portion 16 adapted to be inserted over the edge of the plate 12and to be clamped thereon'in any desired adjusted position by means of a set screw 17. The outer end of the scissors clamp is provided with a clamping jaw 18 which is hinged at its rear edge and .is moved merely nearer. to or farther from plate, while the two blades are relatively movable with regard to each other to cut the material pressed against them.

The operation of my device will be obvious. -The person whose skirt' is -nto be measured stands upon the rotatable platform, the. skirt extending down outside the graduated bar 8 and against the beveled edge of the plate 12. In this position the skirt may be marked, as shown in Fig. 6,

1 by holding'a piece of. chalk or other material against the skirt and pressing the skirt against the edge of the plate 12. It will be obvious also that the skirt may be at the same time out so that its lower edge willbe plane with the plate and hence a line marked by pressing the cloth against the edge of the plate and marking the place with chalk, may be easily cut by simply drawing the cloth slightly outward away from the edge ofthe plate and operating the scissors.

My invention is simple; very convenient? provides for either marking the skirt or for cutting it Without any change of relation between the wearer of the skirt and the 1 marking and cutting device; may be easily disassembled for tive in practice.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:

1. A skirt marker and trimmer including packingsand is very effeca base, a rotatable platform mounted on the base, a marking rod attached to the base and extending vertically upward adjacent to the margin of the platform, a horizontal marking plate adjustably supported on the rod, and means for detachably supporting a cutting device upon the marking plate-and in the same plane therewith.

Ina skirt marker and trimmer, a platform, a vertically graduated rod supported adjacent to the platform, a horizontally extending marking plate vertically adjustable upon said rod, and means detachably engaging the marking plate and extending out in the same plane therewith for clamping a pair of scissors to theplate and in the same plane therewith.

3. A skirt trimmer comprising a base, a rotatable platform mounted thereon, a vertical graduated rod carried by said base adjacent to the circumference of the platform,

1 a horizontally disposed marking plate adjustably mounted onthe rod, and a clamp,

4. A skirt marker and trimmer comprising) a base plate having a central tubular hu a rotatable platform having a depending stud receivable within the hub and a apted to rotate therein, a sleeve engageable around thehub and having a laterally projecting arm, an upwardly extending grad-uated ro mounted on the end of the arm adjacent to the circumference of the rotatable platform, a markin plate having a sleeve surrounding said gra uated rod, a set screw whereby -it may be adjusted to various heights on said rod, and a double clam carried upon said plate, one end of sai clamp adapted to enga e the plate and the other end of the clamp aving jaws engageable with one'bla de of a pair of scissors.

5. A skirt marker and trimmer comprising a base plate having a central tubular hub, a rotatable platform having a depending stud receivable within the hub and adapted to rotate therein, a sleeve en ageable around the hub and having a aterally projecting arm, an upwardly extending graduated rod mounted on the end of the arm adjacent to the circumference of the rotatable platform, a marking plate having a sleeve surrounding said graduated rod, a set screw whereby it may be adjusted to various heights on the rod, and a. double clamp, one portion of the clamp being bifurcated e plate in the same for engagement over the marking plate and being provided with a set screw to hold it in place, the other portion of the clamp having a hinged jaw', a spring forcing the jaw outward and an adjusting screw for forcing the jaw inward. I

6. A skirt marker and trimmer comprising a base-plate, a platform rotatably mounted upon the base-plate, the platform and base-plate being one provided with a hub and the other with a stud receivable within the hub, a'sleeve loosely surrounding the hub and having a laterally rojecting arm, an upwardly extending gra uated rod carried on the end of the arm adjacent to the circumference of the rotatable platform, a marking plate vertically movable on the rod, means for holding the marking plate adjusted to various heights, and a clam detachably engaging the plate at one en the other end of the clamp having jaws engageable with the handle of a pair of scissors.
