Abstract
Condensation products containing sulphur are obtained by treating low-molecular aliphatic alcohols or ethers which contain at least two halogen atoms linked to different carbon atoms, or if the ether group is an ethylene oxide linkage, which contain at least one halogen atom, with a polysulphide, for example the di-, tri- or tetrasulphides of the alkalis, alkaline earths, or ammonia, if desired in a solvent such as an aqueous medium, and with the addition of alkali iodide or organic bases or other additions to modify the reaction. The products which are viscous or plastic to hard, may be after-treated with heating and filling or vulcanizing agents. They are nearly odourless. According to examples: b -b <1>-dichloroethylether, a -b -dichloroethylether, sym - dichloromethylether, glycerine dichlorohydrin, and epichlorohydrin are heated at temperatures up to 100 DEG C. with polysulphides of sodium to give light-coloured plastic or hard products, some of which are aftertreated with heat, or fillers such as zinc oxide, and thiuram disulphide to give faktis- or rubber-like products. The use of dichlorohydrin, halogen derivatives of di- or polyglycerines, and b -b <1>-dichloropropylether is also specified. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the treatment of as-dichlormethylether. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
