[Class 51 (ii)] In a muffle furnace in which the walls of the muffle chamber consist of plates or tiles 1 fitted in grooves in spaced vertical pillars 2, 3, removal and replacement of the plates is facilitated by so forming the grooves and the co-operating vertical edges of the plates that each plate may be swung about the edge engaging in one pillar 2, the opposite edge engaging a check or stop formed in the groove in the adjacent pillar 3. The plates 1 are vertically corrugated and are held in position by jointing material inserted between their edges and the grooves.
