445,085. Universal joints. THOMPSON PRODUCTS INC., 7781, Conant Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Aug. 26, 1935, No. 23866. Convention date, Aug. 30, 1934. [Class 65 (ii)] A joint suitable for use in drag link and tie rod connections in motor vehicles comprises a socket 11 carried by a rod 15 and having a flange 13 forming a restricted opening 14 for the shank 18 of a ball stud 17 having a spherical bearing in two members 20, 21 mounted on ball bearings 25, 28. A washer 29 pressed upwards by a spring 30 holds the stud and members 20, 21 in close engagement. In the form shown in Fig. 3, only one bearing. member 39 is provided for the stud 36 which has a spherical projection 38 bearing in a spherical seating 45 in a plate pressed upwards by a spring 46.
