Abstract
Lead-tellurium alloys for the production of sheaths for electric cables contain also small quantities of metals, such as bismuth, thallium, or copper, which form a eutectic mixture with relatively high proportions of tellurium, the additional metal being present in less proportion than the tellurium. For example, such a proportion of a bismuth-tellurium eutectic containing 15 per cent of bismuth may be added to lead that the final alloy contains 0,01 per cent or less of bismuth. In making the sheaths, the melting charges are preferably not substantially greater than is necessary for filling the receptacle of the extrusion press, and each fresh melt is preferably made during the working or pressing of the previously made melt.
