[Class 7 (ii)] In a sleeve-valve engine, seen in transverse section and plan, each cylinder has, on one side, inlet ports c, c<1>, and on the other side, exhaust ports e, e<1>, separated by a further inlet port d. Temperature distortion is thus reduced, and a short engine produced. The ports, which need not necessarily be at the same level, are connected to inlet manifolds b, b<1> and on exhaust manifold f.
