Abstract
393,670. Cylinders. WHATMOUGH, W. A., 113, Bridge Lane, Golders Green, and WESLAKE, H., 11, Westleigh Avenue, Putney Hill, both in London. Dec. 15, 1931, No. 34759. [Class 7.(ii).] In a multicylinder engine having inlet and exhaust ports 4, 5 arranged in line, the exhaust-valve guides 16 extend through the combustible-mixture manifold 6, which is connected to the ports 4 by short passages 7, preferably shaped as described in Specification 325,257, [Class 7 (ii), Internalcombustion engines, Arrangement &c. of]; the exhaust valves are thus cooled and the mixture heated. Curved passages extend from the exhaust ports 5 to the side of the block between the passages 7. The inlet passages may be surrounded by part of the cylinder water jacket, but a part of their walls should be common with the exhaust passage walls. The invention is applicable to engines having valves arranged over the cylinders, or in the roofs or bases of lateral valve cavities, as described in Specifications 303,592, 319,810, 326,454, [all in Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c, of]. Specification 371,852 also is referred to.
