Abstract
443,437. Electric welding. NEW PROCESS WELDERS, Ltd., Scott's Road, Southall, and HOHS, F. C., 8, The Green, Heston, both in Middlesex, and GLADITZ, W. J., 20, Audley Road, Ealing, London. Aug. 29, 1934, No. 24936. [Class 83 (iv)] In a portable electric resistance welding apparatus of the tongs or pliers type, one of the electrode-carrying jaws is connected to its operating leg or grip through a spring which limits the electrode pressure and the closing movement of the legs also operates a switch controlling the welding current through a relay. The electrodes 3, 4 are secured to jaws 1, 2 of which the jaw 1 is integral with the leg 6, whereas the jaw 2 is pivoted independently of the leg 7 and is provided with an extension 9 pressed by an adjustable spring 8 into contact with the leg 7. The legs are pressed to bring the electrodes together, whereupon the leg 7 moves relatively to the jaw 2 and stresses the spring 8 and connects adjustable contacts 12, 13 so as to operate an electromagnetic relay to switch on the current. The spring 8 then operates the jaw 2 so as to effect the weld. The jaws are opened by a spring 14a. According to the Provisional Specification, the current is cut off when welding is completed by the surge in the secondary circuit operating a relay which breaks the energizing circuit to the controller opening the mains circuit.
