Abstract
443,251. Weft - selecting apparatus. WALKER, W., Rydal Mount, Ilkley, Yorkshire. Sept. 18, 1935, No. 26735. [Class 142 (ii)] Wefts W, W<2> from cheeses &c. pass through tension compensators and guides to heald eyes &c. E at the fabric edge, which are controlled by a jacquard or dobby &c., so as to lower one or more of the wefts into the path of a weft carrier C, whereby they are carried in loop form through the shed. Weft trapping devices such as jaws, rising and falling devices, retain the loop ends, the weft carrier returning empty. Weft carriers, weft supplies and weft selecting devices may be used at one or both ends. The weft carriers may comprise dyes, guides or shuttles carried by rods or by tapes C<1> passing round drums. The carrier C may have an open end, or inclined slot C<2>. The wefts may be of varying colours or materials. The eyes &c. E may be operated by levers, which are controlled by springs and by a dobby &c., and may be carried by the lay G, or, as shown, they may be controlled by rods H slidable in a member E moving with the lay and operated by pegs D<2> on a drum D, when this is lowered against spring action by a lever or cam L. The drum D is turned by chain or ratchet mechanism and may carry a lag chain instead of pegs.
