[Classes 142 (i) and 142 (ii).] A weft-inserting rod W at one or both sides of the loom and having an eye W2 or hook for the passage of an endless weft from a cheese is moved to and fro across the lay by a traversing member W<1> and acts in combination with trapping fingers L<1>, Fig. 4, carried on the lay and holding the weft loop about the end of the forward feeding movement of the weft inserter, and releasing it at the end of the return stroke. The traversing member W<1> is connected to a wire R passing around pulleys on the lay and having its ends passed around a drum D which is geared to a toothed quadrant A oscillated by a cam C on the shaft S. The fingers L<1> at each end of the lay are adjustably mounted on rods L<5> having arms L<6> adapted to be engaged by the arms of bell-crank levers L<2> the other arms of which are connected by wires L<3> to levers L<4> in the paths of the traversing members W<1>. At the beat-up, the levers L<6> contact with projections L<7> on the breast beam to release the fingers L<1>. The weft O, Fig. 5, from the cheese J passes through guides Jl, K, K<4>, K<1>, K<2>, the guide eye K<4> being formed in a weight or pulley M slidably mounted on guides M<1> and serving to take up slack in the weft in cases where the traverse of the weft inserters is in excess of the width of the fabric. The upward motion of the weight M is limited by rubber blocks or springs M2. Stop-motions, we/t.-When the weft breaks, the weight M falls and may operate a stop-motion.
